Our Facilities

At Making Changes, we believe in providing a safe and nurturing space in which confidentiality can be maintained allowing for learners to grow and reach their full potential. Class sizes are kept deliberately small for all our groups so that self development can flourish in a safe space.

We will continue to run the L2 and L3 courses on Zoom. Both these courses are held in real time with full tutor participation.

The 2 year Level 4 courses are face to face at our Centre in Ellesmere Port.

Our Centre has been designed to provide a nurturing environment and consists of a classroom, four counselling rooms/break-out rooms, a lending library, a large space which is multi-functional and can be used for larger groups, our deep dive weekend workshops and continued professional development workshops.

Our kitchen is always fully stocked with refreshments and biscuits. The bathroom is designed fully accessible for disabled users.

The centre is on one level and has full disabled access throughout. We are conveniently located just off the M53 and have train and bus routes close by. There is ample free parking with designated disabled parking bays right outside our door.

About Us

Making Changes consists of a team of competent, committed and experienced tutors who are passionate about counselling work and the way our work can help change lives for the better.

Allow us to introduce ourselves: We are Jan, Barb, Charlotte. and Robyn.

Jan Yii and Barb Smith previously delivered the CPCAB courses in an FE environment before founding Making Changes Counselling and Training in 2015. They firmly believe that these courses are a niche area and because of this, are very different from any other learning environment. The aim is to allow each student to benefit and fully engage with the specialist and dedicated teaching environment found at Making Changes.

This has been evidenced by the number of successful candidates who have walked through our doors and gone on to find meaningful employment following their qualification. We thoroughly prepare our candidates for real world working.

As a team and individually, we all continue to practice as counsellors, supervisors and trainers. This work now adds up to many, many thousands of client hours. We are all still as passionate about this work as when we ourselves were training.

Jan is the Lead Tutor at Making Changes, having worked as a Counselling Tutor for many years. She brings and shares her experience to every session. Her knowledge of trauma work and safeguarding issues is an invaluable resource that all students benefit from and take forward into their own work. Jan is also a very experienced supervisor.

Barb has been a Counselling Tutor for many years. Alongside this, she continues to run her own private counselling and supervision practice and has experience in many areas, particularly in bereavement, couples counselling, and trauma work.

Charlotte has worked as a counsellor and in education for many years. She has a wealth of experience and passion for this work. She has worked in schools and hospices and runs a successful private practice offering counselling to adults and children.

Robyn has worked in mental health settings for a number of years. She currently has her own private practice offering counselling to adults & teenagers, as well as working in mental health crisis & suicide prevention. Her passion for this subject shines through.
